Family Cycling - Punggol Waterway Park to Coney Island

In one of the sunny Saturday, the family decided to go for a family cycling. It was such an adventurous, exciting journey, tracking the path from Waterway Park Punggol all the way to Coney Island from end to end.

So, here are some stories to share, and some tips for you who want to also enjoy this family excitement.

1. Before you go, check the weather forecast first. So please prepare accordingly.
This is what to bring:
  • Insect Repellent spray (drive away mosquito and sand-flies). This is important as it is reported there are many sandflies on the island. Alternatively, you can choose to avoid the beach.
  • Sun block (if it's hot), rain coat (if there is chance of rain)
  • Hats
  • Water
  • If you like picnic like us, we bring picnic mat and some foods :)
  • First aid kit
  • It's up to you, but it's a good idea to equip your kids with helmet and protectors
The best time to reach there about 4-6 pm. It may be a bit hot on some days, but you will have enough time to explore.

2. How to go there?
  • If you have the luxury like us who live in Punggol, we cycle straight away from our block to the Waterway Park entrance on Sentul Crescent. It takes us 10 mins to reach there.
  • If you drive and bring your own bike, you can park at the park entrance
  • If you have to take bus, then take bus no 84 from Punggol Interchange to Punggol Settlement, there is a bike rent shop there. From there you can cycle to Coney Island and Punggol Waterway Park.
  • And by the way, there is no toilet inside the island. The nearest is in the Punggol Settlement. So do what you need to do first :)
3. Our journey
Ok, so here is our map plan, we started from Punggol Waterway Park entrance on Sentul Crescent.

The kids were so excited, and wow, what can I say, the park is so beautiful. It is well maintained, fresh air, clean, it's just so perfect for family outing! Kudos to NPB, they really have done a good job. Take a look at some pictures.

The family happily cycled along the Waterway Park enjoying such beautiful scenery. Along the way you can find monitor lizards, exotic birds, and we even saw a happy turtle family enjoying sun bath.

And there will be new SAFRA opening soon in Q2 2016! We can't wait to explore that too!
When you see a bridge do not cross over it but turn left (see the map above), and follow along the small canal. You will see a red bridge, again just turn left one more time.

It took about 35-40 mins to reach the Coney Island.....

....and we happily continued to explore the island. It is about 2.4 km from west entrance to east entrance (near Lorong Halus)

We spent some time at the beautiful beach. The kids were playing on the beach, and we opened our picnic mat, of course, and enjoying the food with spectacular view. There are 5 areas of beach, beach A to E. You can choose to enjoy all the beaches, and you would find some monkeys too! And, please beware of sandflies, spray your insect repellent (hope you get a natural one).

We finally reached the end point, which is the east entrance and we decided to go back soon, before the day became dark.Along the way back, we managed to catch the ray of sunset from Coney Island. Too bad, my photography skill did not do justice to the beauty of nature, but if you were there, you would be amazed, trust me:)
